I was supposed to do a gallery show with the great Ann Coen this summer, but I just couldn’t pull it together. I’ve been too busy with NestStory and the Little Egg Foundation. It was sad. Not only did I have some ideas I was really excited to share, but I didn’t want to let Ann down. She has always been so kind, supportive, and inspiring. And she has zero tolerance for slackers and anyone who fails to make the most of a good opportunity.
But it all worked out in the end. While txting about it one evening, Ann sent one of her recent pieces and my jaw hit the floor. Then she sent another. And another. And another.
I begged her to stop. Her new work was so unbelievably perfect that I became enraged with jealousy, realized what an amateur I am, and never wanted to pick up a camera ever again!
And so her show “As The Fog Rolls In” was born. She’s filled the hole I left with her first solo show, and it is an absolute stunner. Even I’m going! And I don’t go to stuff! I want to see these in person. That’s how amazing her new work is.
I don’t want to give too much away, but she’s made this collection of this incredible black and white masterpieces of clouds over the water that have to be seen to be believed. They are so other-worldly, yet also so familiar at the same time. If you love the sea these beauties will set your heart on fire. I’m guessing she painted the gallery black and printed these big.
I am really excited to see this, which is weird, because I don’t think I’ve ever been excited to see photography “live” like this. But Ann is a a genius, she’s a master, and this work proves it. She’s always been the best, but now it’s next level.
From me to you, you should stop by and see this (and then go get a slice of Lady Lord cake at the Holiday Snack Bar)
The show is Thursday, August 25th at 110 N. Bay Avenue in Beach Haven. 5 PM – 9 PM.
I’m so excited!
