    1. Depends on the habitat. Near farmland, snowies often prefers telephone poles and barn rooftops.

      Remember, they can fly. They can fly away from anything. They are strong with a huge wingspan and can launch into flight from a sitting position very quickly.

      The main harassment/attacks (here anyway) come mostly from aerial predators (eagles/peregrine/harriers) They are actually more vulnerable to those attacks when they are perched precariously high.

      So the ground has the advantage of wind protection, being close to prey, and having a little cover as they sit very still.
