Playing Osprey

Marty was enjoying her fish dinner on the telephone pole on a lovely spring evening when a terrible gang of crows surrounded her. Not wanting to take undue risks that night, she ended her meal early and flew off. Marty was never in danger, though. With each bite, she looked up, down, backward, and side to side, frantically scanning her surroundings for anything that might threaten her and her precious fish.

Children might sometimes feel this way. But generally, people don’t. So here is a fun thing to do.

The next time you go out for a nice seafood dinner, psyche yourself up. As you sit there eating your pan-seared Halibut with a honey chipotle glaze, served on a bed of creamy sweet potatoes and sweetly seasoned Brussels sprouts, keep imagining that every other table is watching you intently, waiting to strike. Imagine they are sizing you up, waiting for that singular moment of distraction or weakness when they can swoop in and steal your plate. Eat as quickly and violently as you can, and feel your paranoia increase with each bite as you become increasingly satiated and less fit to flee. Feel the stakes rising as they become more hungry and desperate as they watch your fish disappear into your mouth.

Playing Osprey is a great way to add a thrilling and empathetic new dimension to your next night out.
