I don’t know what else to tell you, man. I can’t think of anymore ways to say it. This is complete and total unprecedented insanity. Plover Park is the gift that just keeps on giving and what’s happening in Barnegat Light State Park is, simply, magical. Since I am the one person on the face of the earth who is witnessing it first hand, with his own eyes, more than any other person, I’ll just keep trying.
While we are just starting to fledge, and therefore close the books on, several of our already-record-breaking nests of 2026, I have just stumbled on a brand new one, setting yet another record in this crazy season and promising to keep the magic going just when we thought it was beginning to end. What a way to kick off summer.
This is the 10th nest in Plover Park proper, and the 14th in Barnegat Light. Even in my wildest dreams I never thought I would see this.
It’s not a trick, and it’s undeniably magic, but who is the magician? We are actually not sure yet. Plover Park is so lousy with birds and their breeding chaos, we can’t even figure out who laid these eggs.
But I have my suspicions. Because this nest might have been prophesied. Which would mean we’re dealing with something even more powerful than magic. We’re dealing with wizardry.
