In the recent Reading It’s Clear-cut, And It’s Settled, I mentioned that the first piping plover to settle the new Clearcut area was little Abraxos. On this day in history, in 2025, this stubborn, brutish, creative, adventurous, and marvelous young bird stunned us all on camera, doing something it was not entirely clear that a piping plover would actually do.
Enjoy this very rare event caught in its entirety on the Little Egg Cam! There is no doubting the value of the cameras in helping us to monitor and protect the nests, but almost as important is the new view we are getting into their tiny, often inscrutable lives. We are, quite literally, seeing things that have never been seen before.
