Sweet Chaos

Do not get attached, because this could all fall apart, very quickly. You’ve been warned.

But I suppose that’s also a reason that we should urgently celebrate Plover Park’s black skimmer colony while the gettin’s good! It is truly an astonishing thing.

I am so thankful for The Clearcut. Just a tiny three acres of beach front were restored back to their original, natural state, and within one year, we get the first skimmer colony in ages.

People are clearly nuts about the return of these seadogs, and they should be. They’re incredible. I can’t stop watching them. There is always something chaotic, or sweet, happening in the colony at literally any point, day or night.

To prove this, I just logged on and recorded 3 random minutes of video from Ruffles & Polkadot and from BlueJean & Blazer. I’m not going to edit these, or put little captions on them, or anything. There is no need to. There are so many nuggets hidden in these two videos (that just occurred a few moments ago!) See what you can find. One is a perfect example of the endless chaos, and the other a perfect example of the sickening sweetness.

I’ll only give one “can’t miss” moment in each video which are my favorites.

Isn’t it amazing? This is our natural heritage. This is what our beaches are supposed to look like. These are our animals. You don’t have to like birds to love these guys.

Chaos: Ruffles & Polka Dot

DON’T MISS: the hop & flap!

Sweetness: BlueJean & Blazer

DON’T MISS: the “I’m so excited about my baby” tail wagging!
