The original Most colors for the least tern highlighted the wildly different variations you often see in least tern chicks. While perhaps not as common, you can see it in their eggs sometimes too. The most wild variant being the vibrant, greenish/bluish eggs. They are real stunners, and also a little perplexing since they really violate the rules of near perfect camouflage you often see in all-things-beach-nester!
This summer I found a real jaw dropping set of blue eggs in Plover Park, which I failed to get a photo of. When I shared news of the find with Kashi Davis, she told me she calls them “minty.”
